Summit County woman crashes into sheriff’s cruiser

SUMMIT COUNTY , Ohio (WJW) – A woman from Green is facing charges after she crashed into the rear-end of a marked sheriff’s cruiser in the early morning hours.

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Department, at about 3:25 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, the sheriff’s deputy was stopped at a traffic light on South Main Street and Swartz Road in Coventry .

Lindsey Cope, 36, then crashed into the back of the cruiser, said officials.

The sheriff’s deputy was wearing a seatbelt and was treated on scene for minor injuries.

Cope was not injured, but officials said in a press release, that she was arrested and is facing several charges including operating a vehicle under the influence, having an open container in a motor vehicle, failure to maintain an assured clear distance ahead, and distracted driving.

It’s not clear how fast Cope was driving at the time of the accident.
