Green woman arrested in drunken driving crash involving Summit County Sheriff’s deputy

Summit County deputies arrested a 36-year-old Green woman who they said crashed into the back of a marked sheriff’s cruiser, according to a Summit County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The incident occurred at about 3:25 a.m. Thursday at South Main Street and Swartz Road in Coventry Township. A vehicle traveling south on South Main Street crashed into the back of the patrol unit that was stopped at the traffic light.

Both units were disabled. The deputy was treated on the scene for minor injuries, officials said.

The woman was not injured. Deputies arrested and charged her with operating a vehicle under the influence, open container in a motor vehicle, failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead and distracting driving.

The crash is under investigation. Deputies said alcohol and distracted driving appear to be factors.
