MASSILLON – A junior high student is facing a misdemeanor inducing panic charge, accused of spreading a false rumor that another student would commit a school shooting.
Massillon Police Lt. Nicholas Antonides said a school resource officer became aware of the rumor when she arrived at school on Tuesday.
Police said the teen allegedly created a Snapchat video stating that a Massillon Junior High student would bring a gun to school.
An investigation by Massillon City school officials and the police found the threat was not credible. Officials met with the student named in the video and determined he was not a threat.
“There was no credible threat to the safety of students or staff,” Antonides said.
