No injuries as firefighters battle blaze that engulfs semi-truck along I-76 in Barberton

No injuries were reported Monday morning after a semi-truck crashed and burst into flames on an embankment along Interstate 76 East near Wooster Road, resulting in slowed traffic as fire crews worked at the scene, the Barberton Fire Department said.

The driver was out of the vehicle and safe when responders arrived.

The crash occurred at about 10:40 a.m. and caused a traffic slowdown that lasted until around noon. Smoke could be seen billowing from the site.

The fire was knocked down a little after 11 a.m., the department said.

The Norton and New Franklin fire departments assisted at the scene, along with the Barberton Police Department, Ohio Highway Patrol, the Ohio Department of Transportation nd Miller’s and Hooker’s towing companies.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was called to investigate whether oil and gasleaked into a nearby storm drain, the Barberton Fire Department reported over the radio.
