SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) – Shaker Heights Police are warning the public about a man who reportedly tried to lure children with candy on Saturday.
According to a press release from the Shaker Heights Police Department, just before 6:20 p.m., a 19-year-old went to the police station to report that a man approached her younger siblings earlier that same day and offered them candy while they were playing at the outdoor recreation area of the Shaker Heights Family Center on Sussex Road.

The woman told police her siblings said no to the man, went back to where she was waiting for them, and expressed their concern about the interaction.
According to police, the woman reported that she tried to see if she could speak with the man, but couldn’t catch up to him before he left the area in a white van with a ladder affixed to it.

The man was wearing a dark mask and described as being in his late 30s or early 40s. He was at the Shaker Heights Family Center between 3 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, according to police.
