Tony Codispoti, a retired dentist and steel fabrication industry leader, was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in 2018. Despite not showing any symptoms, his lungs were severely affected. In 2020, a routine CAT scan showed significant coronary artery calcifications, again without symptoms. This prompted Tony to seek advice from Dr. Peter Kometiani at Aultman Deuble Heart & Vascular Hospital (ADHVH) Cardiovascular Consultants.
In his initial appointment, Dr. Kometiani ordered a stress test. The test revealed a blockage in two of Tony’s heart vessels. A heart catheterization procedure was planned to place stents in the blocked arteries. However, the blockage was too severe for stent placement. Dr. Kometiani then suggested bypass graft surgery, which Tony underwent at a specialized care facility.
Post-surgery, Tony continued his follow-ups with Dr. Kometiani at Aultman. During a recent visit due to extreme fatigue, another stress test led to a heart catheterization. The test initially suggested that three of the four bypass grafts might not be working. But after further examination, it was determined that only one of Tony’s grafts was not functional. This was confirmed by another cardiac physician.
