Ohio Pharmacy Board issues ruling in CVS case

CANTON, Ohio (WKBN) – An Ohio CVS Pharmacy will have to keep better tabs on employees and pharmacists to ensure they are not overworked.

The decision surrounds a 2021 investigation by the Ohio Pharmacy Board into a CVS pharmacy on Fulton Drive NW in Canton that found customers were experiencing significant delays in getting prescriptions, phones not working properly, lack of appropriate drug security control, and failure to provide a safe working environment for pharmacy staff.

The decision calls for a three-year probationary period for the store, enhanced monitoring by the Board and includes a $250,000 fine.

Details of the order say that there must be sufficient staff scheduled at all times and not solely based on prescription volume. It also requires that communication channels to request additional staff must be improved, and those requests forwarded to the Board. In addition, there cannot be any retaliation against staff for requesting additional personnel.
