Covered bridge to reopen in Newton Falls

NEWTON FALLS, Ohio (WKBN) — The iconic covered bridge in Newton Falls is set to reopen.

The bridge was recently damaged in a car accident, according to Trumbull County Engineer Randy Smith.

Smith and Newton Falls Mayor Dave Hanson announced Friday that work on the bridge has been completed, which included replacement of “various wooden truss members and other repairs.”

A reopening ceremony is planned for Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m.

According to records at the Newton Falls Public Library, the bridge is the second oldest covered in the state. In November 1974, the bridge was listed with the U.S. Dept. of the Interior’s National Register of Historic Places.
