Police chase through parts of Stark County leaves Perry Township cruiser damaged

A Canton woman, 31, was detained in connection to a police vehicle chase that came through parts of Stark County and led to a Perry Township cruiser being damaged.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, there were reports of a vehicle traveling the wrong way, going south in the north lanes of Interstate 77 from Canton at just after 8 p.m. Saturday.

Officers from the Strasburg Police Department found the vehicle, a 2009 Chevrolet Impala, and attempted a traffic stop. The Impala didn’t stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued northbound back toward Canton.

The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol joined the chase and assisted the Strasburg Police Department, Sgt. Tyler S. Ross said in a news release. The patrol officers eventually took over as the primary units in the pursuit as it traveled east on state Route 241 and onto multiple side streets before traveling north on state Route 21 in Massillon.

The Impala continued fleeing north until exiting Lillian Gish Boulevard to Lincoln Way, continuing east on Lincoln Way, Ross said. A rolling road block was used in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The Impala struck the rear of a OSHP cruiser and continued to flee through side streets and private business parking lots before making its way southbound on Interstate 77.
