A 31-year-old Canton man who fled police for more than 40 minutes committed 48 traffic violations along his circuitous route from Strasburg to Massillon to Canton on Saturday evening, authorities said.
He drove left of the center line approximately 31 times throughout the pursuit, Strasburg Police Chief David Warrick said.
The total does not include speeding offenses the driver committed along the way, but does include 12 instances in which the driver failed to obey traffic control devices or drove on the shoulder of the road.
“He was very erratic,” Warrick said.
The fleeing motorist traveled down side streets, through and around business parking lots and busy commercial streets in Massillon, Perry Township and Canton during the incident, which started shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of South Wooster Avenue, U.S. Route 250, in Strasburg.
