Man struck in Friday hit-skip dead from injuries; identified as 47-year-old from Akron

The 47-year-old bicyclist who was struck by a white sedan Friday died from his injuries, according to an Akron Police Department news release.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Jimmy Fletcher of Akron. He was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. Monday.

“Our deepest sympathies are extended to the family and to all who are impacted by his loss,” police said in a news release.

“It’s pretty heartless that you would just leave somebody that badly injured behind after what probably is an accident,” Captain Michael Miller told Beacon Journal partner News 5 Cleveland .

Fletcher was biking north at about 4:07 p.m. on South Arlington near Ray Street in East Akron.

Police said he was struck by a white sedan that turned onto Ray street. The vehicle fled the scene, leaving the man with life-threatening injuries.

This incident remains under investigation and police are still seeking the driver.
