‘Significant phenomenon’: How NE Ohio hospitals are preparing for total solar eclipse

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — During the April 8 total solar eclipse , more than 100 hospitals in Ohio will be in its expected path.

“The way its projected with the center line and the totality and where things are going to be completely impacted, it’s a pretty big area of our state going all the way from Dayton through the Cleveland area, but its impacting about 114 hospitals,” said John Palmer of the Ohio Hospital Association.

“The ones that are really in the center line area of the totality is about 14, it’s about nine counties, but about 14 hospitals, so that’s a pretty significant phenomenon that will be occurring,” he added.

The Ohio Hospital Association has been making preparations for the event since 2022, helping hospitals across the state prepare for even unforeseen challenges and scenarios on April 8.

“As a hospital, you are looking to provide the care to the patients, but in situations like this, being responsive to any other kind of community needs,” said Palmer.
