Motorcyclist seriously hurt in Tallmadge Twp crash

TALLMADGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A motorcyclist was seriously hurt in an early Sunday morning crash in Tallmadge Township.

Around 4 a.m., a deputy with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office was on the way to a call when they came upon a crashed Harley Davidson motorcycle on the shoulder of the exit ramp from eastbound I-96 to Ironwood Drive.

The deputy found a 32-year-old Coopersville man lying in the ditch with serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released.

The sheriff’s office said the motorcycle was cold to the touch, indicating that the crash happened at an unknown time before deputies found the scene.

Deputies learned that the motorcycle was heading northbound on Ironwood Drive. While trying to turn onto Hayes Street, the motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and landed in the ditch. The sheriff’s office said he was not wearing a helmet.

Northbound Ironwood Drive at Hayes Street is closed while crews investigate and clear the scene. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route.
