Thousands lose power in Summit, Portage counties due to storms

A round of storms Monday afternoon knocked out power and caused scattered damage in Summit and Portage counties, bringing down tree limbs in several areas.

According to FirstEnergy, about 6,000 customers in Summit and Portage counties lost power.

“We have had a lot of storm damage,” said Lauren Siburkis from FirstEnergy.

The force of the winds lifted a trampoline into power lines, Siburkis said. The trampoline was spotted trapped in lines on Cleveland Road at Highland Avenue in Ravenna.

“We’re assessing the damage now,” she said. “Hopefully, we will have power back up within a couple of hours.”

Immediately report downed wires to the local police or fire department by calling 911. Never go near a downed power line.
