William Shatner to boldly go back to Hartville Marketplace for wardrobe auction

LAKE TWP. ‒ “Star Trek” actor William Shatner will return to the Hartville area July 17 to sell off some of his personal wardrobe items.

Jeff Kiko, an auctioneer at Kiko Auctioneers, said the idea behind the event stems from Shatner’s visit to Hartville Marketplace for an in-person appearance and an autograph signing in April. He said Shatner got to know the families behind Hartville Marketplace and Kiko well.

“Shatner kind of fell in love with both of our family histories and our businesses,” Kiko said. “And he loves auctions. He’s gone to auctions his whole life as well, so they kind of came up with the idea.”

According to a news release, the collection comes in with close to 500 items worn by Shatner, 93, on and offscreen. Shatner said he had been thinking about finding a use for the clothes in his wardrobe for some time.

“It had been on my mind to repurpose the valuable clothes and shoes I have in my closet, so I’ve decided to auction them off with KIKO Auctioneers at the Hartville Marketplace,” he said via a news release.
