Pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle on I-480 ramp in Garfield Heights

GARFIELD HEIGHTS , Ohio (WJW) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday morning on a local interstate.

It happened just before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday on the off-ramp of Interstate 480 West to Transportation Boulevard, according to Garfield Heights Police Chief Mark Kaye.

The incident is still under investigation and police plan to provide more details “when appropriate,” Kaye wrote in a statement.

Standoff in local neighborhood ends in two arrests

As of Monday, July 1, there have been 12 crashes involving pedestrians on Cuyahoga County’s portion of I-480 in the last five years, according to crash statistics from the Ohio State Highway Patrol . One of those crashes in 2021 was fatal.
