Twinsburg woman says newborn son saved her life

TWINSBURG , Ohio (WJW) – Thomas Misconin is a happy, healthy toddler who loves playing with trucks.

And at just 18-months old, he’s already been credited for saving his mother’s life.

“So, I went in for my first 8, 9-week ultrasound. Everything looked great, heartbeat looked good,” Allison Misconin told FOX 8.

But it was during her 20-week ultrasound, that her doctor discovered a mass on her right ovary.

A biopsy revealed that at 22-weeks pregnant, the then 28-year-old would have stage 1 ovarian cancer .

The Cleveland Clinic oncology social worker, becoming a cancer patient herself.

“I was angry that we went into this ultrasound being so excited and so happy, and obviously a little nervous. But happy we were able to see our little baby on the screen, and all of that got kind of taken away from me in that moment,” Allison shared.

As the 5th leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women, ovarian cancer is a serious, yet one of the most under-recognized threats to women’s health.
