Motorcyclist killed in crash after hitting truck hauling farm equipment in Wayne County

CONGRESS TWP. ‒ A 60-year-old Burbank man died Wednesday after his motorcycle hit the back of a truck that was hauling farm equipment on West Britton Road, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

George W. Wood Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. near Maple Valley Drive southwest of Burbank.

The patrol said the collision occurred as a gray 2019 Ford F-250 hauling a farm implement was entering the road from a field access drive to turn east on West Britton. Wood, driving a green 2001 Harley-Davidson Heritage Springer east on West Britton, hit the rear of the truck as it was completing its turn.

The driver of the truck, Andrew R. Stands, 42, of Creston, was not injured.

The crash is under investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be contributing factors.

Assisting the highway patrol at the scene were the Canaan Township Fire Department and EMS, Bear’s Towing, and the Wayne County Coroner’s Office.
