Man charged after Ravenna hit-and-run injures pair

A Charlestown Township man was charged Friday in connection with a hit-and-run crash Thursday morning in Ravenna that hospitalized two people.

Michael Joseph States, 33, is charged with fifth-degree felony failing to stop after an accident on a public road, as well as operating a vehicle under the influence and refusal to submit to chemical tests, both first-degree misdemeanors, and unclassified misdemeanor driving under suspension.

States was to be arraigned Friday in Portage County Municipal in Ravenna.

A police crash report was not yet available Friday, but according to an investigative report provided by Ravenna police, the crash occurred about 11:45 a.m. Thursday on West Main Street at Beach Street. When officers arrived, they found a single vehicle with the driver, a man, trapped in it.

The Ravenna Fire Department cut the door off the vehicle to get the man out, and an ambulance took him to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center. Bystanders had helped the vehicle’s passenger, a woman, and a second ambulance took her to the hospital.
