Peninsula transforms into the North Pole nightly to greet holiday train passengers

The calendar may say November, but it is all about Christmas in Peninsula.

This Summit County community nestled along the scenic river in the heart of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park magically transforms into the North Pole twice a night.

It is the destination of the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad’s North Pole Adventure excursions where the train stops so passengers can catch a glimpse of Santa and his elves in a festive setting from the train’s windows.

The railroad celebrated the start of its holiday runs Thursday night with the ceremonial lighting of its Christmas tree along with the lighting displays.

Larry Stevenson , the railroad’s president and CEO, said it is wonderful how the town embraces this holiday tradition with residents and businesses joining other volunteers to create something nothing short of magical for those who ride the train.

This tradition dates back about 39 years.

There are some new treats for the eyes this year in Peninsula.

No matter the temperature, thanks for some trickery it will snow nightly as the holiday trains arrive for a brief stop at the North Pole.
