Akron firefighters and paramedics responded Saturday afternoon to a house fire at 783 Salida St. in Akron that left the inside of the house burned out and damaged the exterior.
Homeowner Dawn Hugg said the home’s residents, including herself, her daughter and her grandson, made it out safely.
But in terms of belongings, they were “left with nothing,” she said.
Hugg also said the family had been watching over about 10 cats that spend some of their time in the home and some outside. At about 4:40 p.m., she said they had found several of the cats that had escaped the burning home but others were still missing. Firefighters brought some of the cats out of the home, and some had suffered burns, she said.
Firefighters on the scene declined comment to the Beacon Journal on Saturday and said the department’s public information officer will be available to answer questions on Monday.
Hugg said she doesn’t know what started the fire. Her daughter smelled smoke, she said.
The fire appeared on the 911-connected PulsePoint app at 3:11 p.m.
