ALLIANCE, Ohio (WKBN) — Former West Branch standout and Mount Union quarterback TJ DeShields led a game-winning drive to lift the Purple Raiders to a 28-21 victory over Marietta on Saturday to secure the Ohio Athletic Conference title.
DeShields connected with Tyrell Sanders on a 27-yard touchdown with just 32 seconds remaining to outscore Marietta 14-0 in the final quarter in the win.
The Valley native finished 9-of-17 for 117 yards and a touchdown while Sanders led all receivers with eight catches for 126 yards and a score.
Mount Union junior QB Noah Beaudrie also racked up 127 passing yards and a touchdown before missing the second half with an apparent injury.
The Purple Raiders also gained 244 yards rushing, led by Tyler Echeverry’s 116 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught six passes for 33 yards.
With the win, Mount Union improves to 9-0 on the season and 8-0 in conference play and will travel to Muskingum on Nov. 16 to wrap up the regular season.
