Members of the audience stood as America’s colors were presented and the national anthem was sung during the Veterans Day program at the Event Center at the Wayne County fairgrounds in Wooster.
The 2024 Wayne County Veteran of the Year is Air Force Sgt. E4 Bobbie Randall . She was nominated by the Disabled American Veterans organization.
She enlisted in the Air Force in 1969, just two months after graduating from high school. She was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana in the early 1970s as a nutritionist at the base hospital.
She is a member of the 555th Triple-Nickle Honors Detachment that participates in the burial of veterans at the Western Reserve National Cemetery near Rittman.
This year’s emcee, Wayne County Sheriff-elect Tom Ballinger, guided the program. Tim Hendershott of Shreve led those in attendance in prayer for for veterans both past and present.
Brandon Irving was this years speaker. He is the commissioner of Wayne County Veterans Services and a Vietnam veteran.
