A Summit County Jail inmate died of a medical emergency while in custody early Tuesday morning, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
Around 5:40 a.m. the 52-year-old inmate, David Brown, experienced a medical emergency while in his cell, the news release stated. Jail deputies and medical staff responded, and Akron EMS was called to the scene.
Brown was transported to Summa Health System – Akron Campus, where he was later pronounced dead.
An investigation into the circumstances and medical condition surrounding Brown’s death is underway, the sheriff’s office stated. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
Brown had been detained at the Summit County Jail since Aug. 17 following charges of assault, disorderly conduct and contempt of court misdemeanor offenses.
