Man indicted for leaving Ravenna crash that injured two

A Portage County grand jury has indicted a Charlestown Township man on charges that he left the scene of a crash that injured a man and woman in Ravenna .

Michael Joseph States, 33, is charged with fifth-degree felony failure to stop after an accident, as well as operating a vehicle under the influence and failure to submit to chemical tests, both first-degree misdemeanors.

Neither the indictment nor the police report filed earlier this month list who was at fault in the crash.

According to Ravenna police crash and investigative reports, States was westbound on West Main Street in a 2005 Dodge Dakota pickup when he switched to the inside lane, accelerated rapidly to bypass traffic and struck a 2012 Nissan Versa at 11:46 a.m. Nov. 7. The Nissan was turning left off Beech Street and was struck on the driver’s side, according to the crash report.

The truck then went across the center line, struck a curb, backed up into another vehicle and then was driven back to the westbound side and continued west, police said.
