A jury scam call that threatens Summit County residents with arrest in exchange for money, claiming they failed to appear for jury duty, has resurfaced.
Here’s what you need to know.
What is the jury scam?
The caller often claims to be someone from law enforcement, Summit County Common Pleas Court Administrative Judge Alison McCarty wrote in a news release Monday.
Recipients of the scam call told the court they were threatened with arrest and told to pay a fine for not appearing for jury service.
Does Summit County court contact residents by phone for missed jury service?
No. The Summit County Jury Commissioner’s officer does not call a juror for a missed service date, the news release explained.
Instead, the commissioner’s officer will mail a letter asking the juror to contact the officer to reschedule their service. No law enforcement officer will contact a resident for a missed jury date. Officers will also not ask for payment of any type for a missed service date.
