Protest of Jazmir Tucker’s death leads to tense Akron City Council meeting

AKRON , Ohio (WJW) — Protesters rallied outside Akron City Hall on Monday night to voice their feelings about the shooting death of 15-year-old Jazmir Tucker by an Akron police officer on Thanksgiving night.

As they chanted “Jazmir Tucker, Jazmir Tucker,” those attending the rally expressed anger about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. While the city is waiting for the outcome of an investigation by Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents, protesters believe the officer who shot and killed the 15-year-old should be fired immediately.

Ohio drone sightings among many causing national concern

“We either want to make change or we don’t. We are either going to hold officers accountable or we’re not, and right now this city is not. He should be fired right now — yesterday,” said Freedom BLOC Executive Director Ray Greene Jr.

Protesters say their opinions are based on police body camera videos that show the officer shooting Tucker with a rifle and shows that a gun with an extended magazine that the teen was carrying was in a zipped-up pocket in his jacket.
