People look forward to the holidays for many reasons: waking up early and running downstairs to open presents, enjoying a big meal with all the fixings, or sitting by the fireplace with a mug of hot cocoa. These traditions bring a sense of warmth and joy that many of us cherish.
But what would these experiences be without a family to share them with?
For nearly 200 children in the permanent custody of Summit County Children Services (SCCS), 67 with no specific plan for permanency, this holiday experience is not their reality. These children are often placed with kinship, foster families, and some with group homes or other facilities outside of Summit County, waiting for the chance to find a forever family.
For them, the greatest gift isn’t wrapped in shiny paper or tied with a bow—it’s the love, stability, and belonging that comes with having a safe and stable family.
Last year alone, SCCS served one in 12 children in Summit County. Our mission focuses on the safety, permanency, and well-being of every child served.
