Workers at several Amazon facilities across the country, including Akron’s fulfillment center at 2450 Romig Road, began a strike Thursday morning after Amazon failed to meet a Dec. 15 deadline the union says it set for contract negotiations, the union said in a press release .
“If your package is delayed during the holidays, you can blame Amazon’s insatiable greed. We gave Amazon a clear deadline to come to the table and do right by our members. They ignored it,” Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien said in the statement.
Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel issued a statement saying the Teamsters are misleading the public with “false narrative” by claiming to represent “thousands of Amazon employees and drivers.”
“The truth is that the Teamsters have actively threatened, intimidated, and attempted to coerce Amazon employees and third-party drivers to join them, which is illegal and is the subject of multiple pending unfair labor practice charges against the union,” Nantel said.
