Ravenna Twp. man wanted on warrant arrested after pursuit

A Ravenna Township man wanted in a felony domestic violence case is facing new charges after Portage County Sheriff’s deputies say he led them on a pursuit Thursday.

The sheriff’s office posted on Facebook that deputies spotted a 2020 Dodge pickup registered to Robert Gene Hanning, 45, leaving his Hopkinson Avenue home.

Knowing that Hanning was wanted on a warrant, deputies attempted a traffic stop. Sheriff’s office officials said Hanning began driving as fast as 50 mph through a residential area, failing to yield at stop signs. It is also alleged that he was texting during the pursuit.

Following a short pursuit, including driving off road, Hanning drove back to his home and into his front yard, where deputies arrested him. Hanning was booked into the Portage County Jail at 11:30 a.m., according to a jail booking report.

Hanning was charged in Portage County Municipal Court with third-degree felony failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer. He has also been cited with reckless operation, texting while driving and a seatbelt violation, all minor misdemeanors.
