Akron man arrested in connection to 2016 Summit Lake shooting

A 24-year-old man was arrested Monday in Summit Lake in connection to a 2016 shooting, according to U.S. Marshals Office.

Damonte Sherrod was wanted by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office for murder, felonious assault and receiving stolen property. He was also wanted for suspected violations of his parole by the Ohio Adult Parole Authority.

In July 2016, a victim of a shooting was found in Akron in a stolen Jeep Liberty, according to the Marshal’s office. Sherrod, who was 15 at the time, was arrested for felonious assault and receiving stolen property. A second suspect in the vehicle, an 18-year-old man, was also arrested.

Sherrod spent about eight years in custody and was released from prison earlier this month.

On Monday, a new warrant was issued for Sherrod for murder as the victim of the 2016 shooting recently passed away. He was later arrested by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force at a home in the 300 block of Ira Avenue in Akron.
