CANTON − Two years ago, Joe Palmisano packed a bag and flew to Poland on a one-man mission to do whatever he could to help rescue Ukrainian war refugees.
He is focusing his attention now on another part of the world: Constructing homes in rural Kenya through Canton-based Building With Hope Ministries .
Palmisano, a lay minister at the Canton Nazarene Church , and lead pastor Rev. Dan Hanson formed Building With Hope to construct new homes for needy families in Bungoma, Kenya, as well as introducing strategies to develop a local economy and sustainable living practices there.
“The whole thing is I’m trying to serve my Lord,” Palmisano said. “I’m trying to do what God wants me to do and give back, and to do the things that we’re called to do. I spent a lot of time in prayer and reading the Bible and I listen. I think part of our spiritual growth is learning to listen and obey, and to take chances and to answer those calls that come in life.”
What is Building With Hope?
Palmisano said Building With Hope is in keeping with Hanson’s vision for ministry.
