Akron Zips forward Emil Jaaskelainen finishes as finalist for top men’s soccer honor

University of Akron men’s soccer redshirt senior Emil Jaaskelainen finished as one of three finalists for the 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy on Friday.

Ohio State senior midfielder Michael Adedokun was named the winner of the 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy by the United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletics Club at a banquet in St. Louis, Missouri.

Adedokun, a native of Eruwa, Nigeria, won the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I men’s soccer that has been awarded annually since 1967. The three finalists for the award were determined on voting by the Division I men’s soccer coaches.

Adedokun, a first-team All-American, led Ohio State and the Big Ten in 2024 with 11 goals and 11 assists. He helped the Buckeyes to a 16-2-4 overall record, a No. 1 ranking in the country, the No. 1 overall seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournment and to the program’s second appearance in the College Cup.

Denver senior midfielder Sam Bassett, a native of Littleton, Colorado, was the other finalist. Bassett totaled nine goals and 13 assists en route to earning first-team All-American honors as Denver (15-3-5) advanced to the College Cup.
