New Stark sheriff warns of scammers demanding payment to clear arrest warrant

CANTON ‒ The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents not to fall victim to a phone scam in which callers claim to be Sheriff Eric Weisburn or another employee from that office.

The scammers claim the call recipient has a warrant out for their arrest and they must pay a fee in order to resolve the issue.

Weisburn, who took office on Monday , said in a press release that the office does not call and request funds, vouchers or payments for its services. He encouraged people to report any suspicious activity to local police and/or the sheriff’s office…
