Marshals arrest man for scamming elderly Barberton resident out of over $130K

BARBERTON, Ohio (WOIO) – The Barberton Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested a Virginia man accused of scamming an elderly resident out of over $100,000.

According to the release, in April 2024, Ankit Patel, 28, told an elderly Barberton resident to pay him over $130,000 because her computer was allegedly hacked and her financial accounts were compromised.

Patel was arrested on a felony theft from the elderly charge, according to Barberton Police.

Investigators identified Patel and tracked him to an address in Virginia. There, he was arrested and later extradited to Barberton…
