Rain tapers off, snow on the way

(WJW) — The threat of additional heavy rainfall has come to an end across Northeast Ohio.

Scattered rain/snow showers will continue through Sunday evening into Sunday night. Little to no snowfall accumulations or travel impacts are expected.

Sunday night will be cold, with overnight lows in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Monday will be a little warmer than Sunday, with highs near 50 degrees.

A strong cold front will drop south across the area Monday afternoon into Monday evening. A band of rain/snow showers will develop along the front as it pushes through Northeast Ohio. The commute home on Monday could be a bit of a wintry mess.

The cold front will push the rain/snow showers east of the area shortly after 8 p.m. Temperatures will quickly drop into the 30s behind the front Monday evening. The wind will also pick up out of the northwest behind the front.

The colder air moving over Lake Erie Monday night will trigger scattered light lake effect snow showers.

Snowfall totals Monday afternoon through Monday night will likely be less than an inch. Much of the snow that falls, especially Monday afternoon/evening, will not stick to the ground.

Tuesday is going to be the coldest day this week, with highs only in the lower to mid-30s. Highs on Tuesday will be 15 to 20 degrees below normal for this time of year.

This will be one of the coldest Opening Days on record in Cleveland. Temperatures will only be in the lower to mid-30s throughout the game. However, it is not even going to feel that warm. A NW wind at 10 to 15 mph will put wind chills in the 20s. Anyone going to the game will want to bundle up!

Temperatures will start to rebound towards the middle of the week. The chance of rain will return Wednesday night and stick around through the end of the workweek. The precipitation that falls during this time will be mostly rain, but a wintry mix of rain and snow will be possible at times Wednesday night and Thursday night. Right now, it looks like next weekend will be dry. Here’s the latest 8-Day Forecast:
