Historical society to pay tribute to John Brown, offer Underground Railroad Experience

Have you ever visited the John Brown Monument in Akron? Here is an opportunity.

The Summit County Historical Society , the John Brown Institute, the Akron Bicentennial Commission and the Akron Zoo are planning tributes to the 19th century abolitionist on the 225th anniversary of his birth.

Events include a free hike to the memorial at 3:30 p.m. May 9 at the zoo entrance at 505 Euclid Ave. The monument, which dates back to 1910, is on zoo property and not usually accessible to the public…
