Arraignment for driver accused of shooting at Akron Police officers after traffic stop

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – The man accused of shooting at Akron Police officers after a traffic stop, was arraigned Thursday in Summit County Court of Common Pleas.

Jon Tae Von Angelo Nelson, 30, pleaded not guilty to felonious assault, discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises, having weapons while under disability, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer.

The judge set his bond at $500,000 and ordered him to return to court on June 5.

According to Akron Police, Nelson was pulled over by officers around 4 a.m. on March 18 at Vernon Odom Blvd. and Tyler Street for traffic violations.

As they approached the vehicle, Nelson allegedly shot at the officers through the window and then sped away…
