Independence police chief speaks out against arrest and traffic quotas

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio – A proposal to ban police departments from using quotas for traffic offences has been supported by Independence Police Chief Robert Butler.

He spoke at the Ohio House Public Safety Committee on Tuesday, May 13, lending his support to the lawmakers’ efforts to ban arrest and ticket quotas as part of House Bill 131, which shadows Senate Bill 114 which passed earlier this year. State Reps. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Cleveland) and Kevin Miller (R-Newark) introduced the legislation.

Butler is also the President of the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and lent his support to the bipartisan legislation…
