3News Investigates exclusive: Parents of Mackenzie Shirilla break silence, claim new evidence proves daughter’s innocence

CLEVELAND — Nearly three years after a deadly car crash in Strongsville claimed the lives of two people, the parents of convicted murderer Mackenzie Shirilla are breaking their silence, insisting their daughter is innocent and that the justice system has failed their family.

In an exclusive interview with 3News Investigates, Steve and Natalie Shirilla spoke publicly for the first time since their daughter’s 2023 murder conviction, sharing details of Mackenzie’s life behind bars and their ongoing fight to clear her name. Their daughter, now 20, is serving 15 years to life in an Ohio women’s prison for the deaths of her boyfriend and their friend in July 2022.

“Show me one piece of evidence — one — that says she did this on purpose. Show it to me,” Steve Shirilla said. “Then she’s right where she belongs and she’s guilty of it. But there isn’t any. There’s no evidence (of) what was going on in that car other than information they gleamed from the black box information.”…
