Blaze destroys Solon home under renovation, damage tops $1 million

SOLON, Ohio — An early morning fire tore through a large home under renovation on Penfield Oval in Solon, causing more than $1 million in damage and drawing a multi-department response, according to Solon Fire Chief Mark Vedder.

The blaze was reported at 3:57 a.m. on May 24 by residents on nearby Chagrin Highlands who could see flames coming from the home. Fire crews from all three Solon stations responded, along with mutual aid from Bainbridge, Chagrin Falls and Reminderville.
