FirstEnergy addresses Barberton electricity outages

BARBERTON — Following a June 23 Barberton City Council meeting that saw nearly a dozen residents voice concern with recent widespread electricity outages, city officials sent a stern admonition to FirstEnergy and the Ohio Public Utilities Commission (PUCO) June 30.

The letter from Mayor William Judge and co-signed by all nine members of Barberton City Council addresses the growing frequency of power outages across the city and the “far-reaching effects these disruptions are having — from financial burdens on families and local businesses to increased pressure on our first responders and essential services,” according to a press release from the city.

“The city acknowledges and appreciates the hard work of linemen in the field and recognizes the responsiveness of FirstEnergy representatives,” the release states. “However, the scale and persistence of these outages demand immediate, strategic attention.”…
