National Weather Service warns of severe storms, dangerous heat across NE Ohio Saturday

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Northeast Ohio residents are in for a steamy and potentially stormy weekend, as the National Weather Service in Cleveland warns of strong to severe thunderstorms and dangerously high heat index values expected to impact much of the region through Saturday night.

The Hazardous Weather Outlook, issued early Saturday morning, includes nearly three dozen counties across Northwest, North Central and Northeast Ohio, including major cities such as Cleveland, Toledo, Akron and Canton. Forecasters say storms could become intense, with damaging wind gusts being the primary threat, NWS said.

In addition to the risk of severe weather, forecasters warn that a hot and humid airmass will grip the region through the afternoon and early evening. Heat index values are expected to climb to between 95 and 100 degrees…
