Buchtel stadium and press box improvements planned

WEST AKRON — Improvements are in the works for the stadium and press box at Buchtel Community Learning Center. Akron Public Schools (APS) Director of Communications Stacey Hodoh said upgrades to the existing press box will include a new concession stand and restrooms.

“Previously, students and guests had to use restrooms inside the school building, which is both inconvenient and poses a security concern,” Hodoh said. “On game days, this space serves as a crucial hub for several key functions, including management of the scoreboard and compiling game statistics. Both home and visiting football coaches communicate with their teams on the field via headsets, and media representatives cover the sporting events from this hub.”

The improvements will cost approximately $2 million and will be completed in two phases. The first phase will include the press box and concession stand areas upgrades, and the second will include the addition of the restrooms. Phase one is expected to be completed by the first home game this fall, and phase two is expected to be completed by the first home game in 2026…
