In yet another bout of legal wrangling within Summit County’s government framework, Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons has once again taken the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) to court. On the heels of a previous legal dispute, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office announced via social media that FitzSimons, serving in his official role, squared off against the county’s commissioners for what he perceives as undue interference with the Emergency Management Division of the Sheriff’s Office yesterday.
The core issue at hand appears to be around establishing who should appropriately wield the reins of command within the emergency framework. The sheriff, presumably looking to maintain the established hierarchy, has felt compelled to once again seek judicial intervention. The suit aims to “clarify chain of command issues created by the BOCC,” as per the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, indicating a continuous tussle for operational control.
