Investigation underway after Canton apartment fire sends 1 person to the hospital

CANTON, Ohio (WJW) — Investigators are now looking into what started a Canton apartment fire that sent one person to the hospital early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the 800 block of 5th Street Northwest just before 2:30 a.m. for reports a fire had broken out at a three-story apartment building.

Upon arrival, firefighters said they saw residents already evacuating the building. The Canton Fire Department said firefighters were able to locate the blaze in the back of a third floor apartment and put it out. Apartments below the one with the fire did have water damage.

Those who were unaffected were able to return to their apartments.

One person was reportedly taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
