HUD secretary visits site of future affordable housing development

CANTON, Ohio — Ohio is facing a severe housing shortage, with more than three-quarters of renters with extremely low incomes spending more than half of their income on rent, according to the latest census.

But one local church is helping to fill the gap and providing long-term stability for families. The secretary for Housing and Urban Development, Scott Turner, paid a visit to the new development going up in Canton.

Once a slum motel where rates were charged by the hour, a local non-profit has started construction. They purchased the old building and they’re erecting not just new apartments but revitalizing an entire neighborhood…
