Akron man gets life in prison for shooting death of 24-year-old woman

AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man convicted of shooting a woman to death as her young child stood nearby has been sentenced by a Summit County judge to life in prison.

Denzel Pope, 20, of Akron, will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years in prison, according to Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich. Last week, Pope was convicted of two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of having weapons under disability for the shooting death of Paige Calich, 24, in July 2024.
