‘Drifted far, quick’: Family speaks after brothers go missing in Lake Erie, search halted for 2nd day

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio (WJW) – As a result of rough conditions on Lake Erie, the U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities were forced to halt a second day of searching for two brothers who were swept away by rip currents on Lake Erie.

The tragic story began to unfold on Sunday just after 5:30 pm, while members of a family from Summit County were visiting Huntington Beach in Bay Village.

The family said they were unaware that the National Weather Service had issued a beach hazards statement on Sunday about the high risk of rip currents due to high winds and wave action and warned swimmers to stay out of Lake Erie…
