Northeast Ohio girl receives life-saving heart transplant

CLEVELAND (WJW) – After more than 200 days on a transplant list, an 11-year-old girl from Northeast Ohio finally got her miracle.

Born with a serious heart defect, Ava Cooper endured four open-heart surgeries before the age of five. By the time she turned ten, doctors told her family she needed a new heart to survive.

And so, the Coopers waited. Hospital hallways became dining rooms. Holidays were celebrated around a hospital bed. Caregivers even staged a father-daughter dance so Ava could still have those special childhood moments.

Her mom, Jamie Cooper, said the family’s outlook came from Ava herself. Directly coming from Ava, you have to remain positive. You have to remain positive and look at the long game.”…
